La Romana cruise - pretty beaches, a wide variety of water sports and more
There is only one cruise ship port in La Romana, with capacity for 2 ships a time. Ships also dock, occasionally, at Isla Catalina, just off the coast in La Romana. The main dock is on land owned by Central Romana and about 1/2 mile from the main entrance to Casa de Campo. Isla Catalina is just a 45-minute boat ride from Casa de Campo, in the Dominican Republic. Discovered by Christopher Columbus. Cruise ships dock directly at the small island of Catalina,The island is so uninhabited and clean of any pollutants that all traveling is done on foot. Catalina is perfect for a day of swimming, hiking and exploring. The entire island is formed out of coral stone and has three overlapping plateaus. The highest elevation is 60 feet above sea level! In fact, there is absolutely no fresh water on the island. There is only one water source the animals drink from and even has traces of salt in it. Isla Catalina, an island only 10 square kilometers in size, if full of natural beauty and wonder that will make for a delightful day of pristine exploration. A self-guided walking tour around this island will reveal to you scenic plateaus of lush vegetation, intertwined with numerous species of birds, as well as wild pigs and rabbits. Make sure to keep your cameras and camcorders by your side, for you will definitely want to record these stunning visuals to marvel at in the future. Many cruise ships offer a beach day which includes a pass to Sunscape Casa del Mar up the coast. A day pass is somewhere around $65 which includes dressing areas and all of the regular AI benefits for the day. It is about a 20 minute cab ride from the cruiseship dock. If your ship doesn't offer it, you can arrange the day pass on your own.
